While we in the Midwest are clearly tougher than others when it comes to weather (i.e. Atlanta), Friends of Hale Cook is erring on the side of caution to keep you, your children and our dear KCPS Hale Cook Transition Coordinator Julie Lynch safe tonight! This evening’s information session and Culture Committee meeting are canceled. We hope you’ll be able to join us next Monday, February 10 for the next info session and rescheduled committee meeting.
In the meantime, email us with any questions and cozy up with some hot chocolate as we enter into the first “snow-tastrophe” of 2014! Stay safe and maybe we’ll see you sledding in the parks this afternoon.

School Culture Committee: Rescheduled for Monday, February 10

Working towards finalizing a blueprint for Hale Cook Elementary to be shared with KCPS
Tonight’s Culture Committee is being rescheduled for Monday, February 10 following the Information Session. At our next meeting, the committee will work on a parent-teacher agreement to set expectations and create a collaborative learning environment. Please join in the conversation to help us shape this proposed document by attending the next Culture Committee meeting on Monday, February 10 from 8PM-9:30PM at the Friends of Hale Cook Office (11 E. Gregory, Suite 200)

School Grounds Committee: Working around the Campus

Join us for our next meeting where we will learn more about best practices for making Hale Cook Elementary a part of a bike-friendly neighborhood

BikeWalkKC will be sharing ideas for how KCPS might make the school campus more bike accessible and safe for riders of all ages at our next meeting. We will also be planning two community workshops (February dates to be announced next week) for the campus masterplan. Join us if you’d like to help determine how to manage the bus drop-off and parking areas, green the campus, locate the new playground, and many other opportunities we’ve begun to identify for this multi-year improvement strategy. Our next School Grounds Committee meeting is Tuesday, February 11 from 8PM-9:30PM at the Friends of Hale Cook Office (11 E. Gregory, Suite 200).

Campus for the Future: Community Invited to Participate in Brainstorming

Friends of Hale Cook is partnering with the District to help shape the campus – come give us your ideas!

KCPS has invited Friends of Hale Cook and the neighborhood to provide input on the future of the Hale Cook Campus. With plans to install a playground, demolish a classroom trailer, and expand our “greening” of the campus, there are many considerations. With an active school, we want to develop the best plans for parent drop-offs, buses, and other activities that will bring this campus alive. We want to know what you might envision for the future of our campus! Please join us for either (or both) of these planning sessions – bring your kiddos and neighbors as they have great ideas too. We look forward to hearing what you think is important to making this campus a true neighborhood center.
You’re invited to join us for brainstorming on the Hale Cook master plan: Saturday, February 15 from 10AM-12PM and Monday, February 17 from 7PM-9PM at 11 E. Gregory, Suite 200.
