We value local ownership and therefore propose that parents have input in principal selection and participation in annual goal setting and review. Parent and community members will be invited to share input on the school-directed budget which we expect to expand in line with achievement.

We will continue to engage community volunteers and parents to provide the means necessary to open this school in 2013 and create a successful program for the years to come. Our goal is to be financially self-sustaining which will include per pupil enrollment, grants, fundraising, and community partnerships.

Program type

The long-term vision is to offer Pre-K through Sixth Grade. In the short-term, we will be starting with a kindergarten (two classes) and first grade for the 2013-2014 school year. We will add classes each year as the school grows.

School hours

We propose maintaining regular district hours but we will work with the community to create additional programming to allow working parents greater flexibility and enhance the overall academic experience for students .

Dress code

We are proposing a school dress code of navy blue and white uniforms.

Class size

While enrollment is still in process, Hale Cook Elementary is dedicated to creating an individualized learning environment.

We will partner with stakeholders to maximize the school facilities. We propose creating a science lab, dance room, art studios (including one with an existing kiln), auditorium, large playground, gymnasium through an “Adopt-a-Room” partnership with local businesses. In addition, to create a civic center for the neighborhood, we propose the creation of a community room to be available for public use at a minimal cost.
